Tips for Out-of-Network Insurance

Inquire with your insurance provider

I recommend all clients call the number on the back of their insurance card and ask the following questions:

  1.  Does my plan include “out-of-network” coverage for mental health?

  2.  What is my annual deductible for mental health benefits?

  3.  What is my co-insurance? (What percentage does the plan cover?)

  4.  Is there a limit on the number of sessions my plan will cover per year?

Learn How to Submit Super Bills

A super bill is a specific form that can be used to request reimbursement from your insurance. This can be auto-generated by my records system. I recommend contacting your insurance about the proper way to submit these bills for approval.

Use a Superbilling Platform

I also partner with a company that will advocate on your behalf to your insurance company to get you effective and expedited reimbursement for therapy appointments based on your out-of-network benefits (if your plan includes them).

This is perfect if you:

• Have out-of-network benefits

• Feel overwhelmed by superbills and insurance

• Have submitted superbills but failed to get any reimbursement

• Simply want to skip the hassle of paperwork!

Here's how it works:

1. Request to use my out-of-network billing platform before our first session.

2. I will enter your sessions into the platform.

3. They submit the claim and handles any insurance follow-up.

4. You get reimbursed by insurance!

A small fee per claim may be charged depending on your benefits, which includes handling any paperwork required, dealing with denials, and calling insurance companies. They guarantee claims are successfully submitted, or a full refund of their fees.
